There are many reasons for war, some more obvious than others...
The Most Obvious Reasons include Money, Religious conflict, territorial gain ( taking over land for their own use), Resources ( trying to obtain oil by force), Racism ( Countries asserting that their race is better than others e.g. World War 2, Hitler vs. the Jews).

World War one grew partly out of competition for colonies. Don't forget to stress the geographical aspects of the war.
